Short-Run and Print-on-Demand Solutions
Our expertise is in digital black and white and multiple color short-run and Print-on-Demand (POD) production. In the printing industry there has been much discussion and confusion around the difference between short-run printing and print-on-demand, so we’ve provided some guidelines to help you differentiate between the two philosophies.
Short-run printing is:
§ A lower quantity of printed product than what was previously produced.
§ Still includes some production overage, and usually some storage requirements.
§ Print the publication in anticipation of future sales.
Print-on-Demand is:
§ A long-term relationship enabling clients to reduce and potentially eliminate inventory and associated storage and fulfillment costs.
§ Production and distribution of printed products in quantities and cycle times based on actual end-user demand.
§ Sell the product then produce exactly what has been sold.
§ Product is shipped directly to the end-user or to factory line.
§ Global distribution via distribute and print solutions.
Benefits of producing shorter digital print runs include:
§ The process is highly automated greatly reducing administration, multiple order entry stops, allowing for revision control and incorporating established business rules and parameters.
§ The ability to print the most current version of information in targeted press runs from one copy to thousands, either in printed or electronic form (i.e. CD-ROM, DVDs, etc).
§ Clients submit electronic files or camera-ready artwork, Midland converts them to print-ready files which are then stored in our electronic content management system for retrieval as orders are processed.
§ From the content management system, solutions can be created to output one-off personalized products utilizing data from an external file, or dynamically build books by selecting sections, chapters or pages that meet the specific needs for that order.
§ Our processes allow for individual order submission, batch order processing and POD operations.
A total information management and delivery solution is available that encompasses information storage and retrieval, inventory management, transaction processing, assembly, packaging and distribution.
