Partnering with Xerox Corporation
Products and Ideas to Support our Print-On-Demand Vision!
Starting in the early 1980’s, Midland began working very closely with Xerox Corporation to develop and design equipment capable of short-run electronic black & white printing. Patterning off Xerox’s high-volume duplication equipment being used by many corporate computer departments, we were interested in adapting this equipment and technology for the printing/publishing arena.
Our long-standing relationship with Xerox has been two-fold. First, we have worked together on many Xerox alpha process developments including linking non-integrated pieces of equipment (scanning and front-end systems) and increasing the output quality from 300 dpi to 600 dpi to allow for publication quality halftone reproduction.
Second, we have worked together with Xerox to develop many specific solutions for our customers. One example was to create a cost-efficient process to scan millions of pages of legacy documents to be archived and retrieved for future printings.
Our partnership with Xerox has been very unique and we are proud of the fact that Xerox incorporated many of the design elements we worked through with them in the early days into their existing Docutech product line. Today, Midland uses Docutech 6135’s and 6180’s as primary print drivers to support our print-on demand vision.
