An Automated Delivery Solution for Continuous Form Digital Printing!
In working with Stralfors International, Inc. our goal was to create a solution for delivering complete book blocks off the back end of our roll-fed digital print engines without using any of the conventional collating, cutting and merging processes traditionally found in short-run printing environments.
Midland’s vision was to use Stalfors unwind equipment to feed our continuous form digital print engines and then deliver the output through the cutter which cuts and slits the printed forms and the stacker which accumulates the product and delivers the book blocks in flat stacks. The flat stack output provides easy distribution to further post-processing such as case binding, perfect binding and coil binding.
Improvements in material handling, throughput, cost, quality and consistency were all benefits realized by creating this unique configuration. The entire solution is fully automated and eliminates the labor-intensive finishing processes – a true cycle-time reduction.
In partnering with Stalfors, we were the first company in the world to use this unique configuration and received a national award for Innovative Use of Technology at the CAP Ventures Digital Printing & Publishing Conference in February 2000.
