Partnering with OCE
Midland wins Innovative Use of Technology Award!
In early 1998, Midland began working closely with OCE Printing Systems USA, Inc. to implement a digital printing system that would streamline workflow and give our customers a true “print to the need” solution.
Serving as a beta test site for OCE’s first pinless non-impact printing (NIP) continuous feed unit in the United States, Midland and OCE developed a digital print workflow configuration unlike any other in the world. The secret of this seamless process is a unique “lock and dock” interface.
For book blocks, a stacker hitches directly onto the cutter delivering finished product off the back end of the machine. To convert to saddle-stitching, the lock and dock station is simply plugged directly to the stitching unit. This changeover takes 5 minutes and can be done on the fly without any other modifications.
Through the partnership efforts of the two companies, Midland was nationally recognized at the CAP Ventures Digital Printing & Publishing Conference in February 2000 and received an Innovative Use of Technology Award for this unique digital printing application.
