Midland Invests In Its Future

Midland Information Resources, a technology driven provider of content management and on-demand printing solutions, announces its transition to a completely digital printing environment.

Complementing established OCE roll-fed and Xerox cut-sheet digital equipment - Midland is making major investments in accompanying state-of-the-art digital printing and finishing equipment to complete this digital migration. This will include adding IBM roll-fed printing and in-line binding equipment, a Kodak digital color printing engine and Standard Horizon near-line binding technologies.

The IBM 4100 HD Roll-Fed Printer is a high speed engine capable of producing digital images up to 1270 impressions per minute – significantly increasing our current capacity and enhancing the digital quality we can offer our customers. A full line of Stralfors pre and post attachments have been added to accommodate perforation and slit/merge requirements and an enhanced front end processor yields near lithographic screen and halftone quality. By including the in-line Sigma Perfect Binder - this overall combination gives us the fastest one-off graphics quality application available on the market.

The Kodak NexPress 2500 is considered one of the leading high-end digital color printers in the industry – offering more consistent color quality for on-demand color covers and full-color static, personalized and customized publications. A 5th toner station has been added giving us the ability to coat covers with an in-line gloss finish.

The BQ470 Perfect Binder by Standard Horizon provides off-line binding capabilities at cycles of 1200 books per hour – including a wide variety of cover sheets. This equipment was designed for ultra-short run production with automated set-up for spine thicknesses of up to 2.5” per book and can accommodate PUR adhesive binding.

In addition, Midland is enhancing its infrastructure by installing the Avanti Print Management software solution to drive the entire manufacturing process – from job planning, scheduling, manufacturing, fulfillment and shipping. When integrated with our current Stellent Content Management System, this web-based software will better facilitate and streamline the overall production process and provide more accurate and timely information flow throughout all operations and for our customers.

Throughout our history, Midland has continually made investments in digital workflow and technology with the strategy to transition to a totally digital environment as soon the right mix of equipment and systems were available to meet our customer’s needs. Now is that time - so we are investing in our future, staying ahead of the technology curve and furthering our mission to provide leading edge solutions to our customers that help solve their information management and distribution needs.
